Kristen is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors and holds a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology. She is currently accepting new clients at Healing Cedar Wellness, a holistic wellness center, located in Port Moody.
Kristen takes an integrative approach to psychotherapy which treats the whole person including: cognitions, emotions, experiences, sensations and spirit. She uses existential analysis and systems theory to guide her work while drawing from mind-body techniques such as focusing, guided visualization and emotional regulation.
Kristen honours her client’s strength and wisdom and believes that counselling is a collaborative process between client and counsellor. Kristen brings respect into each interaction, valuing individual uniqueness and the healing power of an authentic counselling relationship. She believes it is never too early, or too late to enter into counselling.
Kristen has over a decade of experience in the mental health field, working in all aspects of prevention, intervention and education. She specializes in working with youth and adults who struggle with issues such as: depression, anxiety, self-harm and trauma. She also works with families to build healthy relationships and improve communication. Kristen has spent the last few years focusing her research on sexuality and gender identity and has been interviewed on CBC and CKNW radio for her work with various sexual health initiatives. She received the Adler scholarship two years in a row for her commitment to diversity, her work promoting inclusiveness, and her ability to engage at-risk youth. She is currently a member of the Joint Family Court and Youth Justice Committee for the Tri-Cities addressing issues pertaining to resources and legislation concerning families and youth in the area.
